Game Environment Art Program

A comprehensive program for aspiring 3D environment artists ready to build professional skills in game development. Starting September 2026, we're bringing practical training that focuses on real production workflows.

10-month intensive program with portfolio development
Three complete game environment projects from concept to polish
Industry-standard software training across the full pipeline
Small cohorts of 12 students for personalized feedback

What You'll Actually Learn

We've structured this program around the workflow you'll use in actual game studios. Each module builds on the previous one, and by the end you'll have gone through the complete pipeline multiple times.

1

Foundation & Tools

Getting comfortable with the software ecosystem before jumping into complex projects.

  • 3D modeling fundamentals in Blender and Maya
  • UV mapping and texture coordination basics
  • Introduction to PBR material workflows
  • Version control and project organization
2

Asset Creation

Building individual environment pieces with proper topology and optimization.

  • Modular architecture and prop creation
  • Substance Designer material authoring
  • High to low poly baking workflows
  • LOD creation and performance optimization
3

Environment Assembly

Taking your assets into game engines and building complete, playable spaces.

  • Unreal Engine environment composition
  • Lighting techniques for different moods
  • Landscape sculpting and terrain materials
  • Blueprint basics for interactive elements
4

Organic Environments

Natural settings require different approaches than architectural spaces.

  • Foliage creation and placement systems
  • Terrain texture blending techniques
  • Water shaders and natural effects
  • SpeedTree for vegetation variety
5

Advanced Materials

Going beyond basic PBR to create surfaces that really stand out.

  • Shader graph programming fundamentals
  • Weathering and damage layer techniques
  • Procedural texture generation
  • Material instance optimization
6

Portfolio Development

Finishing your best work to professional standards and presenting it effectively.

  • Scene polish and final quality pass
  • Screenshot composition and lighting
  • Portfolio website setup and presentation
  • Industry networking and application strategies

Your Three Major Projects

Student working on medieval marketplace scene in Unreal Engine showing modular building construction Detailed view of sci-fi corridor project with custom materials and lighting setup

01 Medieval Marketplace

Your first complete environment teaches modular construction and architectural fundamentals. Most students spend October through December 2026 on this one.

  • Create a modular building kit with proper tileable textures
  • Build props like carts, barrels, and market stalls from reference
  • Practice composition and guiding player movement through space
  • Learn to light a scene for different times of day

02 Sci-Fi Interior

Moving to more technical environments where materials and lighting become crucial. This runs from January through March 2026.

  • Design and model a functional spaceship corridor or lab
  • Create emissive materials and holographic effects
  • Work with vertex painting for wear and damage
  • Add interactive elements using basic blueprints

03 Natural Environment

The final project is your portfolio centerpiece. April through June 2026 is dedicated to making something genuinely impressive.

  • Build a forest clearing, mountain pass, or coastal area
  • Create custom foliage and ground cover systems
  • Implement dynamic lighting and atmospheric effects
  • Polish everything to professional presentation standards
